This Privacy Policy explains what information Booklern ("Booklern", "we", "us") collects when you use booklern.com (the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and a password, which is stored only in hashed form. If you choose to sign in through a third-party sign-in provider, we receive your email address and basic profile information from that provider. We never receive your password for that provider.
Content you add. Books and texts you upload, your reading progress, bookmarks, saved vocabulary, generated practice texts, and your settings.
Learning activity. Results of your pronunciation practice, such as scores per word and per passage. Voice recordings you make while practising are processed to produce the score and are not stored. Playback of your own voice happens on your device.
Communications. When you send us feedback or a problem report, we collect the message, the page it was sent from, your browser type, and the email address you give us so that we can reply.
Usage information. Records of which features you use and how much, which we need for the daily usage allowance and to understand our costs. While you are signed in, we also record how long each of your sessions lasts, counting only the time the app is open on your screen and in use, so we can see whether the Service is useful. We also collect anonymous, aggregated statistics about visits to the Service, described in section 5.
You can read part of the library without an account. In that case we do not collect account information or content, only the anonymous statistics and the temporary counters needed to apply the usage allowance.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, and only as far as they need it to do so. These providers host our application and database, authenticate users, deliver email, and perform machine translation, speech synthesis and speech assessment. To deliver those features, the text you are reading and, during pronunciation practice, your voice recording are transmitted to the relevant provider for processing. We do not send your email address or account details along with that content.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of Booklern, our users or others. If Booklern is involved in a merger or sale, your information may be transferred as part of it, and this policy will continue to apply to it.
We use only the cookies and browser storage that are strictly necessary: to keep you signed in, to remember your reading preferences and interface language, and to store books and audio on your device for faster reading. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
We measure how the Service is used with a privacy-focused analytics tool that runs on our own infrastructure. It sets no cookies, does not build a profile of you, and cannot follow you to other sites. It records the page visited, the referring site, approximate location at country level, browser and device type, and anonymous events such as "a book was opened". These records never include your email address, your account, the text you read, or the titles of books you upload, and they are not shared with any third-party advertising or analytics network.
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your books, progress, bookmarks, vocabulary, scores and account record are removed immediately and permanently. Cached translations of public-domain texts, which are not linked to you, may be kept. Feedback messages are kept until they are no longer needed to support you, or until you ask us to delete them.
We protect your information with measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords and access controls that limit your content to your account. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us.
Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one you live in. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer to protect it.
You can view and change your account details and settings at any time, and you can delete your account yourself from the Account page. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request access to, correction of, or a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email us at hello@booklern.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we make significant changes we will tell you in the Service before they take effect.
