Terms of Service

Last updated: October 4, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of booklern.com and the Booklern application (the "Service"), operated by Booklern ("Booklern", "we", "us"). By accessing or using the Service, or by creating an account, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Booklern is a tool for learning English by reading. It presents English books alongside a translation into Russian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish or Arabic, reads them aloud, explains words, keeps your vocabulary, and gives feedback on your pronunciation. Some of the library can be read without an account. Other features, including saving words, syncing your progress, uploading your own books and pronunciation practice, require one.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to use online services without parental consent, whichever is higher. You agree to provide accurate information when you register, to keep your login credentials confidential, and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. An account is for a single person.

3. Fees

The Service is currently provided free of charge during early access. We may introduce paid plans in the future. If we do, we will give notice in advance, and you will not be charged unless you expressly agree to a paid plan.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in violation of any applicable law or of another person's rights;
  • circumvent or attempt to circumvent usage allowances or other limits, including by creating multiple accounts;
  • copy, scrape or download the library in bulk through the reader or our programming interfaces, or resell or redistribute it;
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to it or to other users' accounts;
  • probe, scan or test the Service for vulnerabilities without our prior written permission;
  • upload malicious code or content that is unlawful or infringing.

Because translation, speech synthesis and speech assessment carry real costs, the Service applies daily usage allowances, both to accounts and to use without an account. Allowances reset daily and may change over time.

5. Your content

You retain all rights to the books and texts you add to the Service ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. Your Content is private to your account. You represent that you have the right to upload Your Content and that doing so does not infringe the rights of any third party. We may remove content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or the law.

6. Our content and intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, translations, audio, text alignment and study materials, is owned by Booklern or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. The books in the library are classic works made available for your personal, non-commercial reading and study. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the Service for that purpose. No other rights are granted.

7. Copyright complaints

If you believe that material on the Service infringes your copyright, email hello@booklern.com with a description of the work, the location of the material, and your contact details. We will review the complaint promptly and remove the material where the complaint is valid.

8. Automated translation and feedback

Translations, word explanations, generated practice texts, synthesized voices and pronunciation scores are produced by automated systems. They may contain errors and are provided for learning purposes only. Pronunciation scores are estimates and are not an assessment by a teacher or examiner. Do not rely on the Service where accuracy is critical, for example for official, legal or medical translation.

9. Feedback

If you send us suggestions, ideas or problem reports, you agree that we may use them without restriction and without compensation to you.

10. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use your information, and forms part of these Terms.

11. Changes to the Service and availability

The Service is in early access. We may add, change or remove features, and the Service may be interrupted or unavailable from time to time. If we decide to discontinue the Service, we will give reasonable notice so that you have time to retrieve what you need.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the Account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if your use puts the Service or other users at risk, and we will tell you why where we reasonably can. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will do so.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that translations and feedback will be accurate.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Booklern will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability or consumer right that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last revised. If we make material changes we will give notice in the Service before they take effect. By continuing to use the Service after the changes take effect, you agree to the revised Terms.

16. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Booklern regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms without our consent.
