A Modest Proposal
Read this book freeEvery sentence translated, natural audio, one-tap dictionary
A satirical essay in which an Irish writer, frustrated by English neglect, proposes that the poor sell their children as food. The suggestion is absurd, yet the argument is delivered with calm logic and mock seriousness. The target is not cannibalism but colonial policy and public indifference. Its short length and clear ironic sentences make it useful for learners.
