History of Tom Jones, a Foundling

Squire Allworthy finds a baby in his bed and raises him as Tom Jones, a good-hearted but impulsive young man. Tom's rivalry with his scheming cousin Blifil and his love for Sophia Western drive a sprawling comic journey through inns, country estates and London. Fielding's narrator comments wittily on every turn. The long sentences and rich eighteenth-century vocabulary make this a rewarding challenge for learners who enjoy humour and social satire.
