New Atlantis

Francis Bacon imagines a voyage to the island of Bensalem, where a scientific college called Salomon's House studies nature and improves daily life. The short work mixes travel narrative, utopian vision and practical proposals. Its formal seventeenth-century prose is compact, and the clear structure gives learners a manageable example of early modern English.
